February New Advocate Training

Four new advocates participated in a three-day training session in February 2024. The first day included a warm welcome from current advocates who shared their experiences and spoke of their project accomplishments in the program. The new candidates shared their thoughts on why they wanted to be part of the group and the goals they wished to accomplish. Subsequent days showcase topics regarding the mission of Senior-4-Seniors, Meals on Wheels, Bergen Volunteers CHEER/CHORE, elder care legal considerations, long-term care insurance, and other interesting topics presented by guest speakers Michele Ogden, Program Manager of the CHEER and CHORE Programs @ Bergen Volunteers, Mark Reisman, CRPC, Financial Advisor at Equitable Advisers, Larry Joel, Esq., attorney at Joel & Joel, LLP, Jeanne Martin, Executive Director Meals on Wheels North Jersey, and John Birkner, Englewood Deputy City Manager, and former Westwood Mayor.

Seniors-4-Seniors Partners with Felician University

S4S and the Institute for Gerontology at Felician University have joined forces to develop an exciting initiative for the community.

Making a Difference, The Felician Way.

Felician University, in support of its Catholic-Franciscan mission, created the Institute for Gerontology (IFG) in 2013 to address the human, societal, and health conditions of a growing elderly population in the United States.

Working in conjunction with community partners, the Institute provides educational programs, conducts research, and promotes public policy and legislative initiatives that enhance healthy aging. By involving far-reaching constituents, the Institute prepares and assists community leaders in making a difference in the lives of an aging population.

In addition, the Institute seeks to sponsor state-wide summits on aging. By engaging businesses, non-profit agencies, healthcare organizations, and educational partners, the Institute expects to reach a broad constituency of the citizenry.
